About four years ago, some Presbyterian pastors got together to ask this question, “What is next for the Presbyterian denomination?” Our membership has been in decline, our congregations are aging, and our resources are diminishing. What are we going to do about it?
From this gathering, a movement has started known as NEXT Church. The goal is to bring clergy and lay people together who are interested in renewing our denomination, reaching into the new century while preserving a connection to our tradition and historic distinctiveness. Over the past two years, there have been two national conferences. Last month, I helped to organize the first regional gathering. Today’s post is a summary of that gathering found on the NEXT Church website: http://nextchurchpcusa.wordpress.com/2012/08/31/onward-and-upward/
For those who are interested, you can find more information about NEXT Church on this website. I would encourage you to keep coming back as we discern together what God is calling us to be.
